Who Attends "It's About Life Expos"
The members of the LGBT community, who attend the It’s About Life Expo, make up one of the most desirable consumer markets in the world. They demonstrate the energy, strength and financial clout of a community that is uniting more each day.
• The median household income for gay men is $83,000.00 per year. In addition, 40% reported household incomes in excess of $100,000.00 per year.
• The median lesbian household income is $80,000.00 per year, significantly higher than the median US household income of $46,242.00 (2005 census).
• 61% of gay men and 69% of lesbians own a home.
• The median travel expenditure in the last 12 months was $2,000.00 for both gay men and lesbians.
• 95% of gay men and 94% of lesbians made purchases on the internet in the last year. 81% of gay men and 76% of lesbians use the internet for banking and bill paying.
• 53% of gay men used a gym in the past month while 37% of lesbians went to a gym – which is slightly higher than nearly 1/3 of the mainstream population.
• 89% members of the LGBT community are more likely to support companies with favorable LGBT employment practices.
• On average, gay men spend over $5,000 a year dining out and 21% spend at least $10,000 per year. According to the National Restaurant Association, the typical American household spent an average of $2434.00 on food away from home in 2004.
• 97% of lesbian dine out at least once per week with a median of three times per week which equates to an annual median of $3,640 for dining out.
• For both gay men and lesbians, vodka is the preferred alcoholic beverage. The next most requested spirit for gay men is gin and for lesbians it is whiskey.
• 61% of gay men are guardians of pets while 83% of lesbians are guardians of pets. 39% of US mainstream households have a dog and 34% have at least one cat.
• Both US gay men and lesbians spent $500 on clothing in the last 12 months; however, younger gay men spend $250 more on clothing annually than younger lesbians.
• 88% of gay men and 97% of lesbians have at least one automobile in their household. 41% of gay men own an SUV while 52% of lesbians own an SUV. Motorcycles or scooters are owned by 10% of lesbians while 4% are owned by gay men.
